John 3:1-17. Jesus baptized of John in the Jordan River.
Jordan….The most popular word for the Jordan is from the related Hebrew verb, which means “go down“. Thus the tr. “The descender is well known.” A new etymology developed of a word is from the Hurrian word for water, iar, which is like the first part of the word Jordan. The latter part of Jordan is the common sem. word for judge; hence the suggested etymology, the river is the judge. This could reflect an ancient practice of throwing a suspected criminal into the river. If he survives, the judge acquitted him.
Moses (National deliverance)

4. Separated by God for service after 40 days on the mount, completion and separation. (Christ separated for 40 days and nights, to overcome the devil for the sake of Israel.
Addresses natural Pharaoh because of the physical bondage of God’s people, to bring God’s judgment upon Pharaoh. (Adam was the handy work formed God (Gen 2:7), while Cain came from sinful flesh of mankind and was corrupted by the deceptions of Satan to kill his brother. He then became the one to represent the sinful seed of the firstborn of the flesh of mankind. Both peoples in both the old and new testaments were deceived and held captive by a tyrant. 6. Christ, chosen (Rev 19:14) to combat the armies of Satan, the evil spiritual Pharaoh (Rev 19:19).
7. Passes God’s people through baptism to freedom of sin, to new life. (((Take not here. Satan is a master manipulator of the flesh, its emotions and imaginations. He used the strength of the OT laws to torment the minds of the old covenant people because of their transgressions. The virgin of OT Israel became spiritually broken, with a great breach, because of the lies of the prophets Jer 14:10-17, where the corruption was incurable. Therefore, the NT Virgin of Israel (Mary the symbol), needs be baptized (Matt 3:15). The baptism process of John and Christ, revealed the death of the OT virgin of Israel, and arising in and unto Christ the Lord NT, in a new Spiritual eternal life, of the NT virgin. The symbol of a spiritual death unto God, gave the NT virgin the right to be clean, pure and anew, in the life of Christ. Baptism became a symbol of the death of the fallen OT virgin (Amos 5:2), and a new life in the NT Virgin, 2Cor 11:2. Once someone has died, the hold of being a hostage that the OT law had on the worshiper (Eze 44:7), died with the OT worshiper. Rising in a new life in Christ eternally, was, is and always will be Gods plan and final solution for the redeemed of the Lamb. Rev 7:9 After this I beheld, and, lo, a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues, stood before the throne, and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, and palms in their hands. Heb 4:16 Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need. )))
8. Leads God’s people through spiritual desert (Rev 11:8) on the way to the promise land on the other side of the Spiritual Eternal Jordan (Rev 22:1).
9. God’s people removed from Satan’s grip through the death of baptism and a continual bathing in the word. (we pass through the waters of deception spewed from the mouth of the dragon, Rev 12:15, 16.
10. Satan is destroyed (Rev 20:10, which is of the dragons sea of {Rev 17:15}, Gen 1:20, of the thief of John 10:10) by the hand of God through Christ the living word of God.
11. Christ becomes a living sacrifice once and for all Heb 9:26, for sin, to meet the righteous requirements of God’s laws, for the permanent removal of sin and trespasses of the individual.
12. Jesus struggles with the redeemed over their transgressions, as some of the redeemed struggle with truth, 2Pet 3:16.
Note: Jesus does in 40 days and nights, that which took Moses 40 years, Matt 4:1-11, Luke 4:1-13.
One Baptism Eph 4:5. Baptism is an ordered process.
(Depths of baptism and the heart of circumcision) {This underlines the born-again experience}
This may take some time to study and go to the depths of understanding. The longer you look at something the more you see its detail, this I find works with the Word (Christ) of God. {Use a Spiritual microscope}
One baptism, Eph 4:5…This verse is referring to the completion of this process, in the unity of the Spirit of the bond of peace with God, and with each other as the body of Christ, Eph 4:2.
However, Christ, in John 3:5 makes a very profound statement in respect to being born-again of water and spirit, but in Mark 16:16 of being baptized and saved. He makes no distinction between water and spirit.
The 1000 dollar question is, how did the modern day church separate this statement of Christ to make such a split in water and spirit baptism. The Baptist water, Pentecostals Spirit and of course, the Catholics in their sprinkling.
John 3:5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.
The next question would be, can we be saved without Johns water baptism? The answer is both, Yes and NO!
In this study we will attempt to answer both, the submersion by water, and submersion in the water of the word by the Spirit.
One of the most important is the one referred to in Eph 4:5, simply because this is the one that puts you in one accord with God’s Spirit and unites you with his Spirit through immersion in the water of the word. John 15:3, Eph 5:26.
We must first establish that salvation is through faith by promise in Christ. (See Heb 11:6, Faith is what? John 3:16, Mark 13:13).
John 16:7-16, Here Christ expresses the importance of the threefold work of the Holy Spirit, when the Spirit came later unto seeking redeemed Acts 2:5-11, after John’s baptism. 1. Guide you to truth, 2. Show you things to come, and 3. Glorify Christ…truth, way, life.
Acts 2:38. This verse shows the twofold process of salvation.
1. Repent (turn away) and be baptized in the name of Jesus for the remission (releasing fleshes sins, and surrendering up self, of the inner man unto the Spirit.) of sin. This is Johns water baptism.
2. And ye shall receive the gift, of the Holy Ghost. This is Christ’s Spirit baptism of the true JewActs 2:5-11 and Rom 2:29, that comes after the remission of self (surrender) unto the mighty hand (word) of God. The next verse, 39, calls it the promise, which is given to the called of the Lord.
Acts 16:30-31. These verses show that salvation is through faith in Christ. Also see Rom 10:9, 1 Pet 3:17-22. 1Pet 1:11, 2Pet 1:11, Rev 1:11.
There are as it seems two baptisms, that are significantly personal to the believer. The question is how do we reconcile them together as one and remove the divisions that persist in the church today?
A clear misunderstanding of what is written, is the cause of the separation of the redeemed, and divisions that persist between the different church groups today. The divisions come by the misunderstanding of the purpose of John’s baptism of water, and that of Christ by the Spirit. These are truly meant to be one, in a complete and full process, by an act on the believers part through submission. This process should be the goal of every believer to complete and fully understand this process of the promise in Acts 2:38-39.
Baptisms meaning…Biblical
Immersion or dipping? (Immersion means to dip or plunge)
Seven points of observations in these two baptisms.
1. Baptism cleans your soul’s inner man of the quilt of shames corrosive sinful nature of the fleshes work’s, caused by the old fleshy outer man. (Removal of the old man by symbolical separation from self and the old covenant. Rom 6:4, Col 2:12-14, noting verse 12 for operation of God and 14 nailed to the cross).
2. Baptism prepares you to be touched by God through his Spirit. (Removes the sin that separated you from God, Isa 59:20.) In Isa 6:13 it states the a tenth shall return. this .10 are the born again redeemed of Israel(Rom 9:6) in John 3:3-8 Jesus is speaking on being born again, who are those that God did anoint(Anoint occurs in 33 verses.) If we multiply the .10 times the Anoint number 33, we see this. .10×33=3.3, which is John 3.3 and 1John 3:3. If we add all the verse numbers where Jesus is speaking of Born Again, we see this. 3+4+5+6+7+8=33 the Anoint number. Isaac was a forerunner of Jesus, Isaac=33, in Luke 8:11 it is stated that the Seed is the Word of God. the Word SEED=33 the Anoint number. This number 3 and a 3 can be found in 1John 5:7,8, where there are 3 in Heaven that agree in one, the Father the Word and the Holy Ghost, these three are one, in verse 7 there are 3, the water, the blood and the
3. Baptism’s reconciliation, purges your heart and mind, and removes you from dead works. (Rom 5:11, Rom 6:1-18, Heb 9:4).
4. Baptism is reconciliation that leads you to God and removes you from the laws (Col 2:6-15), commandments and ordinances. (Eph 2:15-18, Gal 3:6-15).
5. Spirit Baptism is communion, that strengthens your spiritual drive in God’s might with his Spirit. (Eph 6:10-12).
6. Baptism is the process that restores communion with God, and opens up channels of fellowship with God Heb 4:16. (Php 3:10, Power of resurrection and fellowship of suffering).
7. Baptism restores the heart through spiritual circumcision Matt 13:23 and takes away the fleshy circumcision of dead works. (Rom 2:29, Heb 8:10).
John’s baptism was important at the time of Christ’s appearing, in that it demonstrated separation of all that was lacking in mankind, by mankind’s failure to keep the OT covenant. It opened a door to the new covenant and gave man a right through the work of Christ, to receive the new covenants promise. The symbolical strength of water baptism is just as important today as it was at the time of John, and should not be overlooked or ignored. See Acts 2:38.
These next few passages of scripture through faith in Christ, sets up God’s children in a position, so God could touch them through faith in Christ. This could not be possible unless the work of water baptism was present, (John’s being the first fruit, Matt 3:1,15, Matt 3:11, John 14:16.17,16, John 15:26, John 16:7).
There are three important points that should be considered here about baptism.
Read here before continuing…
The old covenant must be removed, Matt 9:12 (Wine skins), Matt 22:11,12 (No wedding garment), Mark 2:22 (Wine skins), Mark 22:21 (New piece on old garment), Luke 5:37,38 (Wine skins), Luke 5:35,36 (Gown gone- New cloth on new garment).
The garment is on the body of Christ, Rev 3:18. A white garment.
1a. Separation from natural circumcision and of the old covenant that was earthly and fleshy. Heb 1-10, 8:8-13.
b. Separation from the earthly covenants and curses, that enslaved us to damnation by the fleshes weakness, Gal 3:1-29.
c. Separation from the covenant of circumcision, Acts 7:8, Gen 17:9-11, Rom 4:11…That brought us to the new and living covenant by grace, Eph 2:8, Rom 2:25-31, 1Cor 7:19, Gal 4:4-6, Gal 5:6, Gal 6:15, Col 2:22.
2. Baptism was repentance of sin for the remission of sin. This sin separated us from God (Isa 59:2) and ourselves-(Frustration or vanity, Rom 8:20). See section called Frustrations Transgression.
Mark 1:4 shows John’s baptism deals with sin. It was sin of transgressing God’s oral word (Gen 2:17), that kept the Holy Spirit from mankind, Gen 6:3. (John 6:63)
3. Water baptism symbolized being separated from the sinful transgressing nature. (Reason for man falling from grace). Prideful rebellious nature (Spiritual treason).
Old Testament Shadow, New Testament Shadow,
Gen 3:6 1John 2:16.
(a) Lust of the flesh Desires within(a) Good for food
(b) Pleasant to the eyes Greed without(b) Lust of the eyes
(c) To be desired to make one wise. Confusions(c) Pride of life.
(Serpents beguiling opinion).
We become fools through our own imagination’s by pride and shame.
We can expand little on these two verses, Gen 3:6, 1John 2:16. The key to these two verses is in Pro 6:16-19, These six things doth the Lord hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him:
First on the list is pride. (This is because all sin stems from self serving of pride, that is either selfish and or self elevating.)
All seven where found present in Cain, the firstborn seed of man.
1. Proud look (I will do it my way)…Original sin
2. Lying tongue…Original state.
3. Hands that shed innocent blood Original blood shed…Satan’s ministry
4. A heart that deviseth wicked imaginations…Foolish doctrines of self works and are truly not of the word of God.
5. Feet that are swift in running to mischief…Those that cause confusion and toxic deceit.
6. A false witness that speaketh lies…Hatred of the righteous and the innocent.
7. He that soweth discord among the brethern…Divisional strife. (Division is an abomination. Also see Jam 3:1-17 for the very substance of pride.)
All seven were present in the Jewish leaders, that came against Jesus. However, none were present in Jesus himself, because he humbled himself before the Father. Phil 2:8.
Most of these symbolic shadows (except the external promise) in the old covenant were earthly, done by the hands of men (Fleshy), and were outer acts and rituals that were performed by men that did not satisfy Gods need for his righteous justice and judgments of truth, in the promises (Although they were legal symbolic substitutes). Men failed to meet Gods requirements in the letter of the law (This was Kept by Jesus, Php 2:8).
With John’s baptism, God used water as a legal symbolical substitute to separate the children of Israel from these binding laws, that by the weakness of the flesh they would not and could not keep them (See Psalm 14:1-4). This allowed the redeemed through Johns baptism, and all others that would come to believe, the right to enter into the New Testament of Christ (Matt 3:11) at the time of John, Acts 19:23…(Mat 28:19, It must be pointed out that this verse is referring to water, because men are doing the baptizing. God performs the Spiritual baptism through Christ’s work, by the Holy Spirit without the hands of men, Acts 1:14.)
Covenant: A legal disposition, especially of God for man’s redemption. (Disposition. The power or authority to arrange, put in motion or place.) Not only were men released from these binding oaths that could not be broken and or kept by mankind, but it also released God whom also was bound by law, of them in the OT. Gods wisdom released Himself through the death of Christ (1Tim 3:16, 1John 3:16). See John 1:1-3, 14 and 1Tim 3:16. Most of Israel did not keep the covenants, because a covenant is with two not one. It is because of that faithful few (Isa 10:21), God was bound to keep the covenant (Judges 2:1), that could not be broken. However, God knew the weakness of mankind (Jer 10:23) and released himself in Christ (Luke 3:23), and all the redeemed of mankind from the binding laws, so that mankind would come to Him for salvation and he would in turn receive all the glory (John 16:13), because now it is His work in the hearts of mankind and not the strength of man’s hands that saves, or never could save.
Briefly looking at the penalty for breaking a covenant of God.
1Pet 4:17, Heb 10:26-31. (The new covenant by Christ is the eternal promise of the covenant of God, and bares the full weight of the promises in both old and new covenants (See Gal 4:22-31, 1Pet 9-13). There has to be a separation from the old and the new, and this is in the strength of the water baptism of John, in that it became the symbolical substitute of separation used by God, for Gods people of Acts 2:6-11. This use of symbolic symbolism(Hosea 12:10) was in the heart of the old covenant, as in the sacrificial lamb that represented Christ, and there are many symbols (similitudes) in number.
Eze 18:4-5 ” Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine: the soul that sinneth, it shall die. But if a man be just, and do that which is lawful and right,”
Lev 18:4-5 “Ye shall do my judgments, and keep mine ordinances, to walk therein: I am the Lord your God. Ye shall therefore keep my statutes, and my judgments: which if a man do, he shall live in them: I am the Lord.
Psalms 95:8-11 ” Harden not your heart, as in the provocation, and as in the day of temptation in the wilderness: When your fathers tempted me, proved me, and saw my work. Forty years long was I grieved with this generation, and said, It is a people that do errin their heart, and they have not known my ways: Unto whom I sware in my wrath that they should not enter into my rest.” (Christ is the rest that we enter Matt 11:28, Heb 3:1-18).
Hebrews 2:1-3 ” Therefore we ought to give the more earnest heed to the things which we have heard, lest at any time we should let them slip. For if the word spoken by angels was stedfast, and every transgression and disobedience received a just recompence of reward; How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation (Of Grace); which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard him;”
This symbolical separations through John’s baptism, is symbolic of the death of the fleshy outer man in all aspects, so the new birth by rising anew in Christ by Faith, would bring man to a deeper spiritual life and eternal fellowship with God whom is a Spirit. (See Isa 24:5,6 for earth and the inhabitants defiled). (Its like someone that has killed another and has received a death sentence for their crime. The judge then finds mercy in his heart and orders the guilty to one week of community service. This is what God has done in baptism. He has forgiven and commuted our sentence of death unto life and to community service in him, for the children….James 2:14 What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him?
James 2:17 Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.
James 2:18 Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works. James 2:20 But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead? James 2:22 Seest thou how faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect?
James 2:24 Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only. James 2:26 For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.)
John’s ministry prepared the way for Christ, Matt 3:1-16, Mark 1:1-12, John 1:29-34.
To break the old covenant in any way or form, was punishable by death and resulted in separation from God. Eze 44:14. Gen 17:14 (See 1Cor 1:4-21. also Gal 5:1-8).
The Levitical Priesthood was everlasting, Ex 40:15, and also needed to be separated from God’s eternal promises to establish Christ as the Great High Priest, Heb 5:1-14). Waters outer man cleansing, Spirit inner mans cleansing.
Jesus came to set up the kingdom of God in the hearts of mankind. In this act of baptism, God himself, and also through Christ, restored himself back on the throne in the hearts of the people. The children of Israel had rejected God as King, (1Sam 8:6-8, 10:19). But God is an eternal King that reigns eternally from heaven (1Tim 1:17, Heb 11:27).
Jesus made a very profound statement about the kingdom of God in the book of Luke (Luke 17:20,21, The kingdom of God is within you).Jesus makes another very profound statement in John 18:36 and says that His kingdom is not of this world. We sometimes forget that the battle in the new covenant is spiritual. This is why Paul says in 2Cor 10:4 that our battle is not carnal, and in Ephesians 6:10-18, we need to hear the Lords voice to fight. Our enemy is Satan, but the church in the present day, has made each other the enemy and targets of hostilities against each other, and has taken the battle to the fleshes trenches against each other. We continue to lob mines of spiritual divisions, at each others feet (effecting our walks in the Lord) and destroy the work of Christ in the body, instead of throwing the mines at the enemy, Satan and his hoards. The purpose of baptism was to bring us into the family of God for the purpose of destroying the enemy Satan, and setting us free of his wicked deceptions. We have made this a spiritual family feud among the brethren, while the enemy stands aside and mocks us as silly little children.
I must mention here how God has used baptism by water, as a symbol of deliverance, to symbolically bury the curse of sin, because of the sinful transgression in mankind. Baptism is the pavement road that leads to the new creation of man in Christ. Creatures that have breath in their nostrils need air to breathe and water (Eze 29:3, Rev 12:15.) will choke the breath of life.
In Gen 2:7, God breathed life into man. Gen 7:22, all that had breath died. Baptism therefore symbolizes the taking of the breath of the flesh of sinful man and receiving a Spiritual breath in Christ. See Rom 6:4 and Col 2:12, Buried with Him and risen with Him through the operation of God. (See 1Cor 15:45 for last man Adam). Spirit baptism symbolizes the Life of the eternal living God (Jer 10:10) entering into the inner man.
You might say that God has not fulfilled all his literal promises to Israel and there is yet more to complete as some teach. We must try to understand that God did complete and fulfill all his literal promise unto Israel as recorded in Joshua 21:44-45, and because Israel was not faithful as a nation (namely the leadership), God was not obliged to continue in that covenant, after he completed all His literal promises to Israel. A covenant takes two to be valid and both parties must live up to their obligation in that covenant. If the one party breaks the covenant, the second party is free of it. However, God was bound for the remnants sake until the appearing of the promise that was made to Abraham before the Mosaic covenant, Rom 11:1-36. See Gal 3:1-29, Rom 10, Christ is laws end. See also Heb 9:1-28, Eph 2:15, Heb 8:13, Heb 10:9, Rom 2:29, Gal 3:26-29. This is why Paul said in Eph 4:4, one hope.
Now we can move on, to understand the four baptisms that God ordained.
There are four prominent baptisms in the scriptures that speak of deliverance by the hand of God. The last two are commonly spoken of but the first two are rarely mentioned. We can will look at all four in their proper order.
Note: Moses was given laws and ordinances by God, that were already in place and observed by those that were before him that dated pre-flood times.
Example: Gen 8:20-22, Noah offers clean offering to the Lord. Gen 9:22, Ham sees his father’s nakedness and in verse 25 he is cursed of Noah. Lev 18:7 says not to look upon the nakedness of your father.
Cain’s offering did not please God because it came from the cursed ground (Gen 3:17).
Jer 31:32, God says he was their husband and this relationship by Israel’s Spiritual transgressions caused Israel to be an adulterer. Thereby giving God cause to put her away and pave the way for baptism. Baptism also gave God the right to enter into the new covenant without being a covenant breaker.
There are four baptism spoken of in scripture, that speak of deliverance by the hand of God. The last two are commonly spoken of, but the first two are rarely mentioned. We will look at all four in their order as they occurred.
1. First was at the time of Noah…God delivered his children from a sinful and corrupted world through water of the flood. Therefore this was the baptism of the world’s sin and the world itself, that led unto Gods promises, never again to smite every living thing Gen 8:21. (Baptism means dipping or plunging into). See Heb 11:7 for Noah heir of righteousness through faith. Also 1Pet 3:20,21, 2Pet2:5).
The water buried that sinful world and took away the breath of life from the ungodly. All died that had breath in their nostrils, Gen 6:17, Gen 7:22. Only 7 plus Noah survived from off the face of the earth. For Noah’s purpose after the flood see Gen 5:28-29.
Those in the ark receive Gods covenant, Gen 6:18, Gen 6:6-7, the Lord grieved and destroys mankind, beast, creeping things and fowl. (Repent means to change ones mind about some past action, intention, dissatisfaction Etc.).
2. The second was the time of Moses. God delivered his chosen nation from the bondage of slavery in Egypt and from a tyrannical merciless ruler (Pharaoh). Gods children as a nation passed through water to freedom just to enter the desert to be tested. (See 1Cor 10:1-4). Moses baptism’s symbolism…Ex 14:31, 15:17-19.
3. Thirdly is Johns baptism. God now delivers the individual from their personal sin of the flesh, by repentance for the remission (to give up, to pardon or forgive, to restore, to replace) of sin by water. See Matt 3:2,3,6,11, Mark 1:2,4,8, Luke 3:3, John 1:29-31. This is the symbolical separation from the corruption of sin within the fleshes outer man. We must remember that the water baptism alone will not change a sinful heart. These symbols to God are legal substitutes, until the true baptism of Christ is in place in the heart. See parable of the sower in Matt 13.
Note: Water baptism should be a mission and purpose to accomplish for the believer when the opportunity arises, because it is the legal separation of all that was wrong in and with the flesh of man in the first covenant. See Heb 8:8.
We, as well as natural Israel at the time of Christ, must be separated from its dead works of self and the curse of the old covenant. We can see that baptism of water separates from, (1) The old covenant and its context. (2) Deliverance from dead works within the fleshes context. (3) Separates us from our personal sinful nature, and from out of God’s eyes. (4) Separates us from a merciless tyrant Eze 29:3.
All these shadows of what was to come, were important at the time of Jesus, as well as now, because they symbolically separated the individual from the old covenant of the law, without breaking the old covenant and thus becoming adulterous by accepting the new covenant. This death by symbolism, was God’s way of performing this separation. The separation, was from the earthly covenant of circumcision, ordinances and laws, which were all temporal including water baptism. Water baptism will not be needed in the new eternal world, but to be full of God’s Spirit is important and necessary, and the children of the Kingdom of Heaven that pass from this world into Gods eternal world, will all be filled with Gods Spirit forever and ever.
Jesus spoke of wine skins and garment patches in reference to the weakness of the old covenant, in that the new and old do not work together in the children of the Kingdom, and must be separated one from another. Matt 2:2:14, Matt 9:14-17, Mark 2:16-22, Luke 5:33-39. In these verses Jesus was trying to get the people to understand, that it was time to have out with the old covenant and in with the new, by removing the temporal old covenant. When he was taken away in death, it did signify the beginning of the new covenant of his blood, Matt 26:28. Also see Rev 3:18 for new testament garment.
However, the promise of the seed, Gal 3:16-29 (Jesus is Luke 8:11.), that would be a blessing to all mankind, was a permanent and everlasting promise (Heb 7:19 and chapter 9), built on a better hope. Ex 24:5-8 was a shadow of and a smybol, of the new permanent (Heb chapter 10). See 1Pet 3:13-18 for Paul speaking things, that the unlearned and unstable, wrestle with to their own destruction. It still happens today to the weak spirited and weak minded.
The baptism of Jesus, is not a separation, but a reunion, resurrection, restitution and restoration by God (Jer 31:4, 31,33). The Abrahamic covenant, was a promise of the love of God, for mankind, that was established 430 years before the Mosaic law and ordinances, as we have seen in Gal 3.
The promised seed given to Abraham was an extension of the promise made by God in Gen 3:15. (God spoke the promise in Gen 17:4-7, established the promise in Gen 17:21, and completed the promise in Christ in Acts 2:39).
If the covenant of blood established by God to Abraham in 17:9-14, and the law given to Moses was altered, broken or the individual made a covenant with another after coming into covenant with God, this was considered adultery and breaking the covenant that the Lord had made with Abraham, the soul that did this was cut off from their people and God.
Even Christ had to be water baptized before he could institute his ministry of the New Covenant. See Heb 8:7-9,13, 10:1, which separated Christ from the old covenant.
We can say that water separation was necessary for the people, in not transgressing the Old Covenant and becoming adulterous, by stepping into, and making the way for the New Covenant legally, without breaking the old.
4. Christ’s baptism (Of Spirit and life eternal, was not a separation, but resurrection unto the eternal, in Gods dwelling place). John’s baptism is important and demonstrated a separation from the old covenant and self, however, the baptism of Christ does not separate but unites you and God (Eph 4:3,5). Therefore, the baptism referred to in Eph 4:5 is not referring to John’s baptism of separational death through water, but to that of Christ’s baptism of resurrection unto life in restitution and restoration, through reconciliation for the purpose of unity with God. It is this baptism that brings life in the newness of the Spirit of God, See John 4:23-24, Rom 7:6, Gal 6:15 and Col 3:10. See also Rom 2:29, 2Cor 3:6, Eph 3:16, Phil 3:6 and Col 2:6-17.
The symbolic death of water by John’s baptism satisfied God , in that it allowed the baptism of separation of symbolical death, and cause to open the door for Jesus to introduce the new covenant of life, for God’s children and God to be united in the good things to come. Christ’s baptism of John, Matt 3:11-16, paved the way for Jesus ministry to open up, and the giving of the eternal heavenly baptism after Christ’s death. See John 3:3-8.
Note: It is very important to understand that Christ, being in the form of a man, yet himself being God, in that the works of Christ separated God and man from law, that God had established and the curse that follows man’s transgression. God and man were both bound by the laws of the Old Covenant. God through Christ separated himself from the law, that was a binding shadow of the law and ordinances of the New Covenant, that was to follow by the life and death of Jesus. This the invisible God has done, to free mankind and himself, from the old to establish the new (See Col 2:9, Heb 1:1-3 and John 20:28).
All things were done to lead man back to God through his promise in Christ, and to restore the communion, fellowship, worship and unity between mankind and God, Acts 1:4-5. This gave us the 4 w’s, Word, Worship, Walk and Win.
We can safely say that the baptism of Christ by his Spirit, is the one spoken of in Eph 4:5. We can also safely say that the baptism of John represents the righteous lawful separation, established by God to preserve his order in judgments without breaking his own laws. (see symbolism).
Christ’s baptism is not a temporal symbolical ritual, but a permanent eternal God ordained ordinance, and a righteous right of passage, back to the Father of all Spirits, God himself, See Heb 12:9.
Jesus tells his disciples to preach the gospel in all the world, to every creature (Mark 16:15). He stated that those that are baptized shall be saved. What is interesting to make note of is, that the baptism referred to in Mark 16:15, is that of the New Spirit. Jesus never water baptized anyone, only John did and did Jesus’s disciples.
Water baptism alone can never unite you with God, neither can it save alone in itself. The baptism Christ is speaking of, is that of the Spirit, for only the Spirit through God’sEternal Spirit, can save a soul. We must keep in mind, that the water baptism is a legal symbolical substitute used by God to separate, all from the old.
The spiritual baptism of Christs work, is a seal and a circumcision of the heart. 2Cor 1:22. See NIV for this verse. See also Col 2:7-15. See Rom 8:15-32, Eph 1:5,11.
Briefly looking at true Spiritual circumcision: We will see the purpose of circumcision in detail and reason for being circumcised on the 8th day in John 7:14-22, 23, 24 (The you in verse 22, is them of Gen 46:22. Verse 23 and 24, is the righteousness of John 4:23,24.) and circumcision is Spiritual of the heart Acts 7:8–Rom 2:29, which brings the Spiritually redeemed, in Gods covenant with Abraham, into the day of rest found in Christ, of Matt 11:28.
We enter into Christ’s eternal day of rest upon the circumcision of our hearts. Number 8is the day after the natural day of Gods rest, of his naturally created works of Gen 2:2… 8 is Christs number symbol, because it represents that which is above and beyond things that are created and the creation itself of Gen 2:2. Therefore number 8 is the Spiritual number that is greater (Php 2:9, 9 the number that reveals.) than those from 0 to 7 in the Lords code, where number nine only reveals the work of the Godhead in the Lords code. (Noah means rest, from the works of the flesh of his day. Noah found rest in Christ of Matt 11:28, 1Pet 1:11.)
See Rom 2:25-29, Rom 4:11-12, (Rom 15:8-16, noting verse 11). The seed must be clean, therefore the seed that enters a woman Gen 3:15, must enter and exit (The exit would be child and or the Word, Luke 8:11) through that which is clean, or else the woman would be contaminated and the child would either be contaminated, lost or sickly within its mother’s womb. The mother must be a clean uncontaminated virgin, to bare the pure clean firstborn male seed (John 1:14, Luke 8:11, Psa 107:20) which belongs to God. Phil 3:3, Col 2:11. 1John 5:7,8.
John’s baptism was symbolic in a sense. yet seen as legal unto God, in that it in itself naturally being temporal, could not change a heart or restore a soul. Whereas, the baptism of Christ into the Spirit of the Father, is an eternal Spiritual Holy act, that is permanent and life changing and life giving. This is why those in circumstances, such as someone on their death bed, or the thief on the cross, was able to receive salvation without John’s water baptism. Water baptism should be a goal of every believer, but Spirit baptism is right and righteous act within every person that walks by faith in Christ Jesus the Lord of Glory and Power of God.
Salvation comes at conversion through repentance (Acts 2:38, John 14:6), in the submission to the drawing of God’s Spirit, into Gods promise (Gen 22:15-18), which is Jesus the Christ.Christ’s baptism is for the purpose of changing the desires of the heart, through Spirit baptism and spiritual circumcision of the heart, that removes the foreskin of the heart, Deu 10:16. Your sins are forgiven and you are literally plunged (John 4:14, Rev 22:1, SpiritualJordan) into God’s Spirit. This is why, when you see someone that comes to the altar and receives Christ, they seem to get this new awesome spiritual rush. The evidence of true conversion is found in the parable of the sower, Matt 13:18-23. See also Rom 10:10 for believing unto righteousness and confession of the mouth.
Rom 10:10.1. Heart and desires restored in the character of the soul and mind of the inner man.
2. Believing unto righteousness. Believing is acceptance of something that is factual. Unto righteousness is acting out in faith, in that to which you believe or trust in by hope.
3. Confession, a statement of recognition that God’s word is true and valid.
4. Made unto salvation, promise is secured because you accepted God’s payment and plan in your hope.
We can see that the symbolism of natural water baptism alone could not save, but is an act of obedience by the believer revealing that they have walked away from the works of the flesh and the hands of mankind, in the hope of salvation that works in conjunction with the works of Christ. It is meant to be a legal, symbolic gesture on God’s part, that becomes a legal act of obedience on the part of the believer. It is an accepted symbolical law of God’s, that satisfies God’s need for the justice of his ordered laws on the part of the redeemed.
Two of which are…The laws response. See Gen 2:17, laws were in effect before Moses. Moses was given the laws by the hand of God, but they were in effect before they were given to Moses. Example: Noah and Abraham’s sacrifices). Noah received Gods rest in righteousness by faith before Abraham, Heb 17:11. We must come to understand that everything about God’s plan and purpose, was already established by God before the foundation of the world (Rev 21:14), and that God’s order was in place long before man received it, including grace. See scriptures in John 17:24, Eph 1:14, 1Pet 1:20, Heb 8:5.
1. Eze 18:20, the soul that sinneth, it shall die.
The response of grace, Heb 10:12 “But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God;”
2. Deu 21:22-23 “And if a man have committed a sin worthy of death, and he be to be put to death, and thou hang him on a tree: (Gal 3:9-21) His body (John 1:14) shall not remain all night upon the tree (John 19:38, before night fall.), but thou shalt in any wise bury him that day; (for he that is hanged is cursed of God;) that thy land be not defiled, which the Lord thy God giveth thee for an inheritance. The response of grace, Gal 3:13. Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:” (New Covenant began at Christ’s baptism and was conclude at his death. New day in God’s plan began the age of NT grace. This is the reason for removal of the body before night).
It must be noted that this curse spoken of, goes all the way back to Adam, the first cursed of God among men. We should look at the promised Holy Spirit to get a better understanding of the depths of the baptism by the Spirit.
Old Testament reflection in scripture. Isa 4:3-4 “And it shall come to pass, that he that is left in Zion, and he that remaineth in Jerusalem, shall be called holy, even every one that is written among the living(Mal 3:16 of Jon 3:16) in Jerusalem: (This Jerusalem Gal 4:26) When the Lord shall have washed away the filth of the daughters of Zion, (Psa 48:1-2, Is 14:12-14, Rev 12:7-9) and shall have purged the blood of Jerusalem from the midst thereof by the spirit of judgment, and by the spirit of burning.”
Malachi 3:2 ” But who may abide the day of his coming? and who shall stand when he appeareth? for he is like a refiner’s fire, and like fullers’ soap:”
The new testament is a testament of reconciliation not separation. The fulfillment of God’s promise could only come by the removal of the Old Covenant and the sin stained garments of the flesh and removal of the man made government (Jer 11) that could not please the Lord.
Matt 23, Jesus speaks against the seat of the government and the city in which God had put his name, noting verses 37,38 (How often would I gather thy children together, and you would not), Luke 3:5, Matt 18:12… Matt 21:33, Jesus speaks of a certain householder (God) {House is Israel} that planted a vineyard, lending it out to the husbandman, looking for fruit and finding none. He then takes the kingdom from them and gives it to a nation producing fruit (Of the spirit, now under the ruler ship of Jesus in Matt 2:6 and the twelve apostles in a New Covenant). See John 15:1-11.
With the separation and removal of the old covenant, God could now bring in the new and eternal promise. (What was it? The appearance of grace, 1Tit 2:11, they knew of it, but they did not see it, 1Pet 1:9-10 and 1John 1:1-3)
1. Was spoken in Genesis 3:15,concerning the promised seed that would produce 12 fruits of the Spirit. See Gal 3:16-29.
2. Confirmed to Abraham in Gen 17.
3. That was established in Isaac in Gen 17.
4. That was fulfilled and completed in Christ in the new testament (See Rom 4:16 to the end, the promise might be sure to all that see, and Rom 10:4, Christ, the promise, is the end of the law.)
Eze 37:14, The land referred to hear is God’s land and he is the true gardener. We must note, that if this was speaking of natural Israel, it does not fit. For the land of Israel today is dry and parched sand that represents a curse ground. Natural Israel today has no natural resources except the recent discovery of natural gas on her coastline. So where is the land of milk of honey? It is given to the true Israel of God, the body or church of Christ of Eph 1:23. God has made natural Israel a byword and a dry and thirsty people naturally and spiritually. This portion of Israel is the very portion that God has blinded in part until the fullness of the Gentiles come in. Gods covenants are all based upon a promise made after the transgression of God’s authorities Word of Gen 2:17. The covenants are all based upon this spoken oracle from the divine. This oracle was a promised seed ( Gen 3:15, Luke 8:11). Therefore, all the covenants are based upon the first promised seed, and not supported by the latter OT covenants to Israel that came after the promise seed of Gen 3:15.
Covenants are supported by the promise, which is Christ, and not the promise supported by the old covenants as some teach. The promise was first, then the covenant followed afterwards. The NT promise is the seed of Luke 8:11 (See John 1:18, John 8:18, John 17:5,8,11), the covenant is the seed of John 1:1-3,14,18, revealing the actions of the promise.
Promise of hope first, then the OT covenant followed (1Pet 1:20, Eph 1:4). The NT covenant was firstly before the OT covenants (1Pet 1:11, Gal 4:22,29, 1Pet 1:9-13.). For this is what the scripture declare in the book of Rev 21:12,14.. When one builds a house, the house is not erected then you lay the foundation afterwards. The foundation is first then the house. Gods house Israel was before the foundation of the world (OT Covenant is an agreement). God made His eternal promised before he made the OT agreement, this bound him to the promise, not a broken weakened people, that broke the covenant or agreement. Completion of the covenant or agreement brought in the fullness of the promise(Tit 2:11, Heb 9:26). The promise established the seed, while the NT covenant is a fulfillment of the seeds action. Christ fulfilled the covenant for you. The promise was fulfilled in Christ for the sake of redemption for all, in both the old and new covenants. One plan (One faith) and one hope Eph 4:4-5.
Final note: Heb 13:20-21 “Now the God of peace, that brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great shepherd of the sheep (Psa 80:1), through the blood of the everlasting covenant, Make you perfect in every good work to do his will, working in you that which is well pleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ; to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.” (See verse 17).
The old covenant was between God and the nation of Israel. A covenant is between two parties or more (God and Israel), in that many of Israel were involved in that fleshy covenant with God. But God whom is one and a Spirit, and the many had more opportunity to break the covenant through flesh. The scriptures have concluded that all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God (Rom 3:23). Christ has taken our place and kept the law, became our offering to God in our place as a mankind, and so reconciling us back to God through baptism by the Spirit and circumcision of the heart by the same Spirit, making peace with God, in one new man by the body of Christ Eph 1:23. Eph 1 and 2.
The NT covenant that is of God, whom is one Lord(Deu 6:4), is with mankind as a whole (John 3:16), with the one God. This is why Jesus in John 17:22, prays earnestly that we become one people, as He and the Father are one. Jesus has come to remove the separation that is ever present between mankind and God, in his ministry of reconciliation. This is a covenant that cannot be broken, because God has made it an forever covenant between the redeemed and God through the man Christ Jesus. God has established it in himself, completed it by himself (Being God in the flesh 1Tim 3:16 and God as a mighty eternal Spirit), will bring it to an end by him self, to receive all the glory in that, we cannot take credit for anything in ourselves. See St. John 16:3-14.
Christ being both God and man (John 1:14, 1Tim 3:16, 1John 3:16), has established this covenant on a better promise through the blood of the man Jesus. This covenant is fueled by faith in God through Christ the Lord, and God who is able to perform that to which you have delivered unto him by faith, 2Tim 1:12. It cannot be altered or changed by God in any way, because God made it by promise, and it is everlasting and forever through the eternal heavenly promise of Psa 107:20. However, those that do not enter by faith, cannot in themselves keep this covenant, because it is only accomplished by the work of Christ within(Heb 11:6), through the circumcision of heart, by Christ’s baptism of the Spirit of God.
Side note: If God does not control both the just and unjust (Rom 9:21), then God does not control at all. He must have rule and have full power over all.
Isa 45:7 ” I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the Lord do all these things.”
Isaiah 41:15 “Behold, I will make thee a new sharp threshing instrument having teeth: thou shalt thresh the mountains, and beat them small, and shalt make the hills as chaff.”The thee here is Christ of Rev 19:13,16.
Isaiah 64:8 ” But now, O Lord, thou art our father (Isa 8:18, Isa 9:6); we are the clay, and thou our potter (Rom 9:21); and we all are the work of thy hand.”
Jeremiah 18:4-6 “And the vessel that he made of clay was marred in the hand of the potter (Adam): so he made it again another vessel (1Cro 15:45), as seemed good to the potter to make it. Then the word of the Lord came to me, saying, O house of Israel, cannot I do with you as this potter? saith the Lord. Behold, as the clay is in the potter’s hand, so are ye in mine hand, O house of Israel.” (Note: Christ Jesus as a man’s number symbol is 6. The potter in Jer 18:6, is a symbol of him. If we add verses 1 to 6 we get 21. 21 is the number symbol of the Lord of Gen 39:21, Deu 1:21, Psa 21:1,Isa 44:13{4+4+13=21}, Isa 44:21, Isa 45:21, Matt 1:21, Rom 9:21, 1Cor 15:21.)
Romans 9:21” Hath not the potter power over the clay, of the same lump to make one vessel unto honour, and another unto dishonor?”
